Why is having a secure website important?

One of the main worries a smaller online business faces is security, so why do so many businesses not have secure websites? Probably because they haven't got round to buying one or they don't undertsand the need for one. The key point to focus on is the padlock in the top left of the search bar. Google outlined in 2016 that all websites should have one of these (an SSL certificate).

Google states three points that it feels are the most important. "Authentication", "Data Integrity" and "Encryption".

Authentication is the process of identifying the website as genuine. There are people out there that think make clones of websites and try and steal from genuine ones.

Data Integrity is whether or not the data has been tampered with. If someone knows what they're doing then they can talk to the client and they would think it's the business owner.

Encryption is the security of the communications between the server and the client so that nobody else can read them.

What can you do to solve these problems? Buying an SSL certificate would be the first move to make. They are easy and relatively cheap to get hold of. Once you have one, then you can forget baout it for another year. There are other techniques companies must impliment in order to be as secure as possible.
